Hebrews 11:6 (KJV)
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him

We live in a society that is virtually devoid of faith. Since most people don’t read the Bible, they don’t know much about God or believe He even exists. What about you — do you lack the faith to believe in God?

Having true faith will help you make sense out the troubling and confusing world we live in. It will give us the confidence we need to move forward with our life despite trials and setbacks. Being a person of faith is more than being religious or being part of religion. It is observed that ‘Faith’ is about what you as an individual personally believe. It exists (or not) independently of if you ever tell anyone about your beliefs and independently of whether or not anyone else shares your beliefs. Religion is organized faith. A group of people with similar faith that in some manner share the faith is a religion.

However, we lack faith because we are afraid or scare of things we have no control. However, the question is why are we scared? Is it an illness? Maybe physical pain? How about the unknown? Let’s face it; we struggle with fear. Everybody struggles with fear. While it may vary significantly in specifics and severity, it is common to us all.

The Bible has a lot to say about fear. The exact phrase, “Fear not” and “do not be afraid” appears over 103 times in the King James Version.

The antidote to fear of course is faith. For the Christian, our faith is in God. He is the object of our faith and the one on Whom it rests (Psalm 91:2). We are told to fear (respect, revere) the Lord (Proverbs 1:7). We are called to overcome our fears and live our lives by faith (Psalm 56:3-4, Isaiah 41:10, Mark 4:40).

“Faith is holding on to God’s promises and finding your own fulfilled.” In this one statement there is much truth for those with a religious orientation. For Christians, having faith in God’s promises allows one to find fulfillment in life. Faith is defined as an unquestioning belief that does not require proof or evidence. In our society today, we find people have faith in several things from employers to spouses to ideals. The word faith carries a totally different meaning for most people. It could pertain to a person, place, thing, or ideal.

For a Christian, what is faith? And how does that play a part in things like locus of control, self-esteem, and optimism? And if faith in God and His promises typically govern our thoughts, we will make choices that honor Him for the most part. Acts of obedience will characterize our life because of the trust we have in Him. our starting point is faith, and everything else proceeds from that (Psalm 9:10, 16:8). But if fear controls our thoughts, we will be ineffective, immobilized, and even disobedient to the call God has on your life. We will not make wise decisions (Matthew 25:25).

Growing in faith requires believing in God and maintaining a close relationship with Him. We can have this relationship with God through daily prayer, Bible study and applying what God says in the Scriptures in your personal life.

Have a great and God filled day!
